Private Swim Lessons Private and semi-private (2 people) lessons are for those who are interested in one-on-one instruction, need more flexibility with scheduling, or have a specific area of interest. Classes are 40 minutes and can be conducted in either the shallow end of the pool or in a lane depending on the needs and level of the student. There are no age restrictions for private swim lessons.

To set up private lessons, please complete the request form found in 2009 SWIM LESSON SIGN UP LOG located on the front desk of the swim club. You will be contacted by an instructor to arrange the date and time for your lesson(s)

*All Non-Member Lessons includes a family swim pass on lesson day.

Group Swim Lessons There will be four (two week) sessions of swim classes offered this summer at Cary Swim Club for members and non-members:

Session 1 runs from 6/15 to 6/25
Session 2 runs from 7/6 to 7/16
Session 3 runs from 7/20 to 7/30
Session 4 runs from 8/3 to 8/13

Each session will consist of six lessons held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (rain dates on Fridays). During those days we offer three different skill levels for Preschoolers & Youths (two for Adults) at the following times:.

Preschool group lessons will be 30 minutes in length, Youth and Adult group lessons will be 40 minutes in length. Preschool 1, Preschool 2, and Youth 1 classes will be conducted in the shallow end of the pool. All other groups will be in the lanes. Please read the lesson description and requirements to place your child in the correct group. If you don't know where to place your child, please find Shawn Ryan and he will test your child's skill level. We must have a minimum of 2 students (maximum of 4) signed up before a class can be offered. The number of classes taught during a time slot will depend on the number of people who sign up (example: If eight children want to sign up for the P1 class at 9:00 in session 1, then we will run two classes of four students each).

  • CSC member group lesson (6 half hour classes): $60
  • Non-member group lesson (6 half hour classes): $80*

*Includes family swim pass on lesson days.

You can sign up for group lessons in the 2009 SWIM LESSON SIGN UP LOG located on the front desk of the swim club. Please place your check in the green packet (needed to reserve your spot in class). You will be contacted by an instructor when the minimum class size is reached and we can hold the class. If we don't have enough students for the class you signed up for, your check will be returned to you.

Class Skill Levels


Preschool 1 -
Ages: 3 & 5

  • Class Length: 30 minutes
  • Location: shallow end of pool

PRE-REQ: No swim experience is required.
Description: Helps students feel comfortable in the water and get introduced to the elementary aquatic skills. Children will learn to:

  • enter and exit water safely
  • submerge mouth, nose and eyes
  • exhale underwater through mouth and nose (blow bubbles)
  • open eyes underwater, pick up submerged object
  • change direction in the water
  • explore floating on front and back with support
  • explore swimming on front and back with support

Preschool 2 -
Ages: 3 & 5

  • Class Length: 30 minutes
  • Location: shallow end of pool

PRE-REQ: Child should be able to enter the water independently, travel 5 yards, blow bubbles 3 seconds, glide 2 body lengths on front, and float on their back 3 seconds.
Description: Gives students success with fundamental skills. Children will learn to:

  • enter water by stepping or jumping from the side
  • exit water safely using ladder or side
  • submerge entire head
  • blow bubbles submerging head in a rhythmic pattern (bobbing)
  • float on front and back
  • perform front and back glide (with and without kicking)
  • swim on front and back using combined arm and leg action

Preschool 3 -
Ages: 3 & 5

  • Class Length: 30 minutes
  • Location: shallow end of pool

PRE-REQ:Child can glide 2 body lengths on front and back, back float 5 seconds, use combined arm/leg motions on front and back to swim 3 body lengths, can roll from back to front and front to back.
Description: Increase swimming skill competency and safety skills. Children will learn to:

  • jump into deep water from the side
  • dive from kneeling or sitting position
  • submerge and retrieve an object in chest deep water
  • change from horizontal to vertical position in deep water
  • tread water using arm and leg motions (chest deep water)
  • swim freestyle and backstroke 1/2 length of the pool with rhythmic breathing

Youth 1 -
Ages: 6+

  • Class Length: 40 minutes
  • Location: shallow end of pool

PRE-REQ:No swim experience is required.

PRE-REQ:Child can enter the water independently, glide 2 body lengths on front and back, back float 5 seconds, use combined arm/leg motions on front and back to swim 5 body lengths with rhythmic breathing, can roll from back to front and front to back.
Description:swimming skill competency and safety skills. Children will learn to:

  • jump into deep water from the side
  • dive from kneeling or sitting position
  • swim underwater
  • rotary breathing in horizontal position
  • change from horizontal to vertical position in deep water
  • tread water using arm and leg movements
  • swim front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke for 3/4 length of the pool.

Ages: 6+

PRE-REQ:Child can swim 3/4 length of the pool freestyle (rotary breathing), backstroke and elementary backstroke. Float 30 seconds independently.
Description:improve skills and endurance in familiar strokes (freestyle and backstroke). Children will also learn to:

  • perform a dive from standing or stride position
  • perform a shallow dive, glide two body lengths and begin any front stroke
  • perform open turns on front and back
  • start to learn breaststroke and butterfly

Adult 1 -
Ages: 15+

  • Class Length: 40 minutes
  • Location: Swim Lanes

Description:This class is designed for those with little to no swimming experience and who want to learn the basics, from floating and breathing technique to freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke.

Adult 2 -
Ages: 15+

  • Location: Swim Lanes

Description:Students in this class are now comfortable in the water and have a broad knowledge of the basic strokes. The instructor will build on swimmers' prior experience and introduce drills to break down the strokes while enhancing efficiency and enjoyment of swimming. breaststroke.
